Philip and I first met in 2004 playing on our high school tennis team when we were paired together for mixed doubles. We ended up winning S.O.S.S.A that season and began to gain an interest in one another. By October 2006 we were officially a couple and have been together since. Together we attended two proms, Brock University for Business Administration and upon graduation Philip got a job while I made the decision to continue my education at Mohawk College in Architectural Technology. Originally, Philip was anxious and excited to begin our lives together so the news of another 3+ years of post-secondary and the debt that accompanies it, did not thrill him. However, he became my rock through it all as we watched those around us buying houses, getting married, starting a family, there were many times I considered quitting so we didn’t have to post-pone our lives any longer but he was there encouraging me to push through. On October 10th of 2015(Thanksgiving Weekend) he had asked me to play tennis with him as relief after he had just written and passed his third Actuarial exam which was extremely stressful for him. About 20 minutes into playing he brought me to the center of the court telling me to come look at something. He proceeded to tell me that the spot where we stood was the exact location he first saw me talking to the coaches as he walked up to the courts. His speech caught me very off guard as he’s not usually one to discuss his feelings, and I didn’t even clue in that he was catching it all on his GoPro (I was used to him taping his playing haha). Before I knew it, he was down on one knee and asking me the very rhetorical question of whether I would spend the rest of my life with him, as if there was ever a doubt in my mind. Thank goodness he caught it all on tape because I think I went into shock, he had me so convinced previous to that moment that we were looking at a 2018 wedding the way things were panning out. I thought I would have been a little more presentable, maybe dressed up, make-up on, but then I may not have been as surprised, and to do it at such a meaningful location to our relationship was more perfect than anything I could have ever imagined.
